How Rankings Work

When you search for a tradesperson on phoneAtrade, the results are ordered by a ranking score that combines three factors:

  • Review quality: Your average star rating, weighted by review volume using a logarithmic scale so that 100 reviews at 4.5★ doesn't automatically beat 10 reviews at 4.9★.
  • Tier bonus: Each tier carries a ranking multiplier. Higher tiers rank higher — rewarding the professionals with the longest track records of excellence.
  • Profile completeness bonus: New and low-tier listers receive a proportionally larger bonus for having a complete profile. This gives motivated newcomers a real chance to compete before reviews accumulate.

Our promise: Your tier and ranking score are never for sale. No amount of spending changes how the algorithm evaluates your reviews. Premium subscribers gain additional visibility tools within their earned tier, but the ranking formula itself is identical for everyone.

Can I pay to rank higher?

Your tier and ranking score cannot be purchased — they are determined solely by your reviews and profile completeness. Tradespeople can subscribe to Premium ($9.99/month) for enhanced visibility within their earned tier, but this does not affect their ranking score or tier position in any way.

What if I get a bad review?

One negative review won't destroy your ranking if you have a strong overall record. The logarithmic review weighting means that a large volume of positive reviews absorbs occasional lower ratings naturally. Focus on consistency — that's what the algorithm rewards.

Can I dispute a fake review?

Yes. If you believe a review violates our guidelines (e.g., it's from someone you never worked with, it contains false statements, or it was left by a competitor), you can flag it via our support center. Our team reviews every flagged review within 5 business days.

How often does my tier update?

Tier and ranking calculations run continuously. Your tier badge updates the moment a new review pushes you past a threshold — there's no manual review or waiting period.

Do older reviews count less?

Currently, all verified reviews count equally regardless of age. We may introduce recency weighting in a future update, which would reward tradespeople who maintain quality over time rather than relying on a large historical review base.
